Struggling to Reach Xero and More
I want to share my experience with Xero Accounting. Xero doesn't provide any direct contact options, only through their non-customer friendly Xero Central. They don't accept phone calls, emails, or offer chat support. Their customer service is the worst I've encountered in my 200 years of working with software packages. I strongly recommend anyone considering Xero to research thoroughly first. They don't listen to their customers and have ignored requests for basic accounting features for about a decade. Once you start using an accounting package, it's difficult to switch, but I assure you, you'll want to once you experience how terrible this company is. They show little regard for their paying customers and overlook basic issues. There are countless negatives with Xero. They are unreachable, so if you encounter a problem, it will persist. You can't close a VAT return period, allowing anyone to amend an invoice.

In my view, Xero is a comprehensive software that offers all the basic needs for businesses at a fair price. The support is only accessible via online chat and may take a while to respond, but overall, it's quite user-friendly. I find the bank feeds uncomplicated and the creation and dispatch of sales invoices straightforward. I value the feature that allows me to upload documents and proofs for nearly every transaction, which is extremely handy when looking for documents at the end of the fiscal year. However, the reports can be somewhat limiting and setting up bank feeds can occasionally be challenging. I also believe the payroll function could be improved with more features and simplification. I selected Xero based on my clients' requirements, their ability to use it, and the cost. Many of my clients transitioned to Xero due to its price, ease of use, features, and the capability to have all entities on the same platform. I recommend it to new clients if it aligns with their budget.

My overall experience with Xero has been transformative. The customer service team has been outstanding, and I've been able to fully understand the product through their help documents. I value the employee portal and have received positive feedback from my team as well. The user interface is user-friendly and I appreciate the visibility of expenses, income, and outgoings. Entering employee details is straightforward, with useful notes provided. The support team is top-notch and I've received help from my accountant who can also connect with my Xero system. My employees have their own logins and can submit leave requests through the portal. After a year of use, I have no complaints about the product. I switched to Xero after finding it much more user-friendly during a trial.

I find the user interface of Xero extremely straightforward and not overwhelming, which is beneficial for me as I don't have an accounting background. As a startup founder, I juggle various roles and Xero assists me in managing all my bookkeeping needs. The dashboard provides a clear overview of our company's performance and helps in managing the runway. Overall, I appreciate the product, except for its lack of payroll support. Xero relies on Gusto integration for this, which, while excellent, can be a bit costly for a young startup. I chose Xero over Quickbooks because it's more affordable, and the only thing Quickbooks does better is its inbuilt payroll feature, which wasn't a concern for us as we were already using Gusto.

The software's user-friendly interface empowered me to handle financial matters independently, something I couldn't do with the previous software. I would endorse Xero to all small businesses. It's incredibly straightforward to use once set up, offering clear reporting, seamless invoicing, and simple account reconciliation. While transitioning from MYOB or another accounting software can be time-consuming, this is a common issue with any software. The switch to Xero was initially accidental, as it was the preferred platform of the organization's Treasurer at the time. However, it proved to be the best software switch the business ever made.

Xero: A Game-Changer for Non-Profits
Now that I've started using Xero, I've come to really appreciate it. Its structure is different from Sage Line 50, but the principles are the same. Several accountants recommended Xero or Sage online over Quickbooks. The online feature is particularly useful for our team as we don't operate from a central office. I needed an expert to help me set up Xero and ensure all data was correctly imported, which took about 10 hours. I chose Xero mainly based on these recommendations and the costs were fairly similar. We switched to Xero because we needed an online option, something Sage Line50, which we were previously using, didn't offer.

I am extremely satisfied with Xero, which I am using to build my practice. They offer a quality product backed by a solid company that genuinely values its advisors as crucial to their business model. Xero has an excellent community and support system. What I appreciate most about Xero is its open-platform ethos, which is evident throughout the product. For instance, it's simple to manually import bank transactions via a CSV file and just as easy to undo the import if necessary. While features like Cash Coding and Find & Recode are fantastic, it's more about the design choices that Xero makes. I am eagerly waiting for them to integrate Hubdoc into Xero and once that happens, I would like a feature that generates a report showing which GL transactions lack a source document. I chose Xero because I believed that the ability to integrate apps would be crucial in the long run. Xero and QBO are leading the way in terms of integration and I believe they will dominate the market like Coke.

I recently found out that Xero Tax doesn't support online filing for my company accounts without partnership status. However, I'm thrilled to say that this has opened up a new opportunity for me to explore their other fantastic features that I've been paying £5 annually for!
