Cons from reviewers

  • Complex initial setup: While Planview Enterprise One is effective in managing work, time, and resources, the initial setup process can be challenging and time-consuming

  • Time-consuming operation: Planview requires more time to operate and extract necessary data compared to some other project management software, which can slow down work processes

  • Confusing column names: The software uses confusing column names, such as Project Start Date which ceases to display the correct project date once the project has started, causing potential confusion and misinterpretation of data

  • Requires extensive training: Planview is described as the most un-intuitive tool, requiring extensive training and administrative support for casual end users or semi-casual project managers to use and train on it

  • Lacks comprehensive tracking: While Planview is efficient in managing enterprise-level requirements and offers a time-sheet tool for tracking resource time, it lacks in tracking schedule and cost as a package, which can limit its effectiveness in comprehensive project management.

      Planview - Simplifying Project Management

I've been using Planview for over three years and I really appreciate its simplicity in managing medium-sized and complex projects. What I love the most is the 'Export/Import capability of an MSP project at the task level'. I can allocate resources to individuals and against the CAPEX and OPEX budget codes. The reporting capabilities are superb, enabling me to see the project status, compare estimated hours with actual hours, view R/G/B status, and make notes. I can also manage at the portfolio level and assign weight to each project. The user interface is user-friendly and has a classic view. I have no complaints as everything seems to be functioning well.

It's great for analyzing different financial viewpoints at various levels, from enterprise to program to project. Massive Platform, Extensive Admin Required

The Planview Sales and Support teams are great and very helpful. However, understanding them requires knowledge of the "Planview" language. The software can perform any PPM and Resource Management function like other tools and its portfolio management can analyze data effectively. But, it's the most "un-intuitive" tool I've ever used. Without extensive training and administrative support, it's almost impossible for a casual end user or semi-casual PM to use and train on it.

      Functional, Yet Challenging

I transitioned to Planview from another software a few months ago and honestly, I regret not sticking with the previous one. Planview requires more time to operate and to extract the necessary data. However, when its financial features are working correctly, I do appreciate the options for financial analysis across various projects, as it enables quick and easy comparisons. My main issue with Planview is the confusing column names. For example, "Project Start Date" ceases to display the correct project date once the project has started. The reason I switched to Planview was due to a client requirement.
