I started my partnership with Datto with high hopes, particularly for their Cloud Continuity product with a BMR restore function. Initially, everything seemed promising, from the wholesale pricing to the NFR offerings. However, I soon encountered issues. My representative was changed without my knowledge, and I found that some of the information I was given about the product was inaccurate. For instance, I was told that the Cloud Continuity product could virtualize in the cloud and allow remote work until failed hardware was replaced. This turned out to be untrue, which made me look bad to my clients. Despite these issues, I continued to use and sell the product. The support team was always available and usually able to resolve issues quickly. However, over time, the downsides became more apparent. The BMR portion of the backup was frequently disrupted by Windows Updates, requiring a forced differential merge to fix it. This was a hassle, especially with many seats running the product. I also had problems with the BMR function itself. Out of four attempts to use it, only one went smoothly. The others were plagued with issues, from booting into the Datto Restore Utility to errors during the restore process. Even when the Bare Metal Restore was

I value Datto SIRIS for its capability to swiftly restore a server to service, either via virtualization or bare metal restore. This minimizes downtime and lost productivity, offering assurance that the data is secure from disasters, ransomware attacks, or even accidental deletions. I've installed the Siris X1 and X2 at several of my clients' locations and have already used it to perform a bare metal recovery of one server and a file level restore of another. The software backs up the systems hourly to itself, enabling local server restoration or virtualization. It also sends the data to the cloud, guaranteeing server virtualization in case of a building-wide emergency. I was able to quickly recover a server that had a drive failure and could have virtualized the server temporarily if necessary. Datto regularly tests the backups and provides a screenshot to confirm that they are bootable. Despite the recurring costs of this cloud-based solution, they are worth the peace of mind of having offsite.

We transitioned to Datto SIRIS from a fixed location backup due to its potential failure, lack of redundancy, and the need for the same backup power element that our larger servers fail. Datto SIRIS's cloud model enables us to keep our own data without the risk of it being held captive by a third party.

Raising support tickets is an interesting journey due to its unique account structure and it gives me ample time to understand the system while tech support tickets are being resolved. Best of all, when I'm stuck, it feels like an opportunity to learn. I have a Customer Success Manager who gives me the space to figure things out on my own and doesn't bombard me with emails. I would advise others to try this software for its unique learning experience.

Datto's Unreliable Warranty: Can We Trust It?
I have been a user of Datto Siris for several years and recently bought an S3B2000 unit for a client to replace their old one and upgrade to a larger data backup. Datto offered a 5-year warranty on the unit. However, when the unit faced an issue and stopped backing up, Datto support decided, without any explanation, that it was not under warranty because it was on a UPS and the UPS battery powered off. I find this decision unreasonable as it's hard to imagine a setup without a UPS and it's common for UPS batteries to die after a few years. Despite several hard power shut offs, the unit failed to connect to the environment, suggesting a defect. Yet, Datto support decided not to honor the warranty without any explanation. I was disappointed with their response. Despite this, I appreciate the product's ease of use and have been using and promoting Datto for over 10 years. I switched to Datto Siris due to the growth of data.

They're also open to discussions about temporary increases for specific projects, which shows their flexibility. The billing has been consistently on point, sometimes even more than expected, which is a clear sign of their commitment to providing top-notch services. The account managers are always on their toes, encouraging us to consider 3-year deals on other Kaseya products, which shows their confidence in their offerings. Every time I log into Autotask or Datto RMM, I'm greeted with popups suggesting new things to try or different services to sign up for. It's like a constant reminder of the vast array of services they have to offer, and I appreciate their effort to keep me informed. There's no option to permanently dismiss these notifications, which ensures I'm always up-to-date with their latest offerings.
