Power Apps: An Excellent Low Code Dev Platform for O365 Users

As a frequent user of O365, we required specific apps to manage processes that were previously manual. Instead of purchasing a product, we opted to use Power Apps to create a solution. We already had access to it through our existing O365 license and found templates that fit our needs. It took only a few hours of development to create a custom app at no extra cost. The ease of building a custom app and the functionality provided even with the basic M365 license is impressive. However, there are some limitations and scalability issues. I wouldn't use it to run a whole operation, but it's suitable for smaller, specific apps. Licensing beyond the basic features can be confusing and costly. Also, not everyone documents parts of their app properly, which can cause problems. This is a common issue with self-developed apps.

Power Apps - Unleash Your App Creation Potential

PowerApps is a robust tool for app creation and low code development, offering impressive features and functionalities. It's a low code automation platform that can connect with various sources like Excel, PowerBI, SharePoint, and more. I particularly appreciate its support for mobile devices and its drag and drop features. However, it's only accessible to Microsoft account users and only allows one developer to work at a time in the canvas application.

      Effortless Business App Creation Tool

I utilize Microsoft Power Apps within the Microsoft Power Platform ecosystem and Office 365. I create simple Power Apps using Power Automate, Power Bi dashboard, Microsoft forms, Outlook, and OneDrive connectors, and publish them internally on my company's SharePoint. This enables my team to access data insights and learning analytics about our training programs and students' performance. Microsoft Power Apps allows us to make data-informed decisions and improve our products. It provides instant feedback, supports a dynamic workflow, and enhances business performance. As a low-code business application solution, it's user-friendly and enables non-developers like me to create and customize applications for our business needs. Power Apps simplifies the process of turning ideas into published applications, allowing us to focus on the business goals rather than the underlying technology. It features a user-friendly drag and drop editor, custom templates, and a wide range of connectors for integrating multiple applications into one PowerApp. However, the access permission management in Microsoft Power Apps can be confusing.

      Low-Code Yet Intimidating and Slow-Paced

I tried using Power Apps to develop a tracking app for external trainees. I liked its strong integration with SharePoint and the overall Office ecosystem, and thought the pricing was fair, as some access comes with certain Microsoft 365 tiers. However, I found that running an app on a SharePoint list made the experience slow and off-putting for our external users. I also found designing a Power App more challenging than other no-code/low-code products. I initially chose Power Apps because it was part of our Microsoft subscription and its integration with SharePoint, but I eventually switched to AppSheet.

MS Power Apps, a low-code development platform, has allowed me to swiftly and effortlessly create business applications. Effortless App Creation with Familiar Microsoft Features

Since finding Microsoft Power Apps, I've managed to create and use an app to update SQL table data on an internal database server in less than 2 weeks. It's logical to learn and easy to design, providing strong functionality. However, the licensing structure can be a bit confusing and it could get expensive if many small apps are created instead of integrating multiple functions into one app.

      An Exceptional Low-Code Solution: PowerApps

As a small organization, we struggled with limited resources and funds to access advanced tools. However, Power Apps came at the perfect time to meet our needs and we haven't looked back since. Although it took some time to learn, we couldn't have created the tools we now have on any other platform. Power Apps enables us to deliver the right information to the right people at the right time, allowing them to take meaningful action. We can customize it to our needs, which is far superior to any out-of-the-box solution. Despite the cost, it has saved us tens of thousands of dollars per year in employee hours and helped us generate income faster. What I appreciate about Power Apps is its ability to quickly transition from problem to solution and share that solution with anyone in the company. However, there are some challenges, such as difficulty in styling apps and performing seemingly simple tasks. For instance, fitting text horizontally requires a workaround. Despite these issues, it's still faster.

Effortless yet Robust, Low-Code App Creation with PowerApps

Developing with Power Apps has been enjoyable for me due to its quick and powerful results that benefit my organization. The software's interface is user-friendly and flexible, enabling me to create and launch attractive applications with little effort. When paired with Power Automate, Power Apps becomes a powerful tool that can yield impressive outcomes with minimal coding. As part of the Office 365 suite, Power Apps can use staff user data and execute complex tasks across nearly all other apps in the suite via Power Automate. Creating form fields is easy but time-consuming without the ability to template a form field for reuse. Power FX, Power Apps' coding language, is simple for basic applications but can become difficult to master as I start to do more with my app. However, I can often delegate the processing to Power Automate, where I can do more without having to code. Choosing Power Apps as part of the Office 365 suite was an easy decision due to its native integration.
