The feature I value most in Datadog is its ability to compare all data received from our platform, including platform status, network status, performance traces, and logs. This greatly assists in identifying issues that would be challenging to find manually. However, Datadog does have some shortcomings. For example, it could use a self-remediation tool. Since every server already has a Datadog agent installed, it would be extremely helpful if we could add, edit, or delete custom checks in Python through the UX. It would also be advantageous if we could automate some actions programmed in the UX to work and integrate with escalation policies and alerts. We switched to Datadog from Pandora because Pandora wasn't scaling as we expected and we were looking for a unified product that could meet all our needs, such as server monitoring, database monitoring, and APM.

The licensing model may seem a bit complex at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite straightforward. I initially wanted to monitor databases only, but I found the infrastructure monitoring to be an unexpected bonus. It's like getting two for the price of one! After three months of using Datadog, I can confidently say that their support team is incredibly knowledgeable about database monitoring with their product. Despite the timezone differences (I'm based in the UK), they always manage to send a response just as my workday ends, which gives me something to look forward to the next day. They promised to forward my request to the account management team, which I appreciated. What really stood out to me was the follow-up email I received from their commercial account executive. They wanted to check in and see how I was getting on with the trial, offering to spare 15-2 minutes of their time. While I had already made my decision, I was touched by their dedication to customer satisfaction. Initially, I was a bit hesitant about their pricing model, but their customer service has left a positive impression on me. I may not be continuing with them at this moment, but their customer retention practices have definitely made me consider returning in the future.

It's an outstanding product that continues to improve every day, particularly if you're using multiple clouds. There are many integrations available that offer ready-made dashboards and metrics. Logs are easy to ingest from virtually anywhere. While it's expensive, the pricing is straightforward and easy to keep track of. It's costly, there's no other way to put it, but they strive to make it worth your while, and for me, it is. I can't think of any downsides beyond that. I chose Datadog because it was the only option that allowed me to consolidate everything into one product. I switched to Datadog because I needed to centralize all monitoring and alerts.

I've been using DataDog to monitor lambda logs for errors and to track load and uptime on various RDS and EC2/Fargate instances. While the setup for multiple accounts can sometimes be unstable, the product generally performs well with a consistent interface. The log imports from AWS are efficient and faster at searching than using AWS Cloudwatch. On a daily basis, I find it easy to search for items in logs, particularly after implementing a few log transformers. The initial setup can occasionally be confusing, and I found it simpler to change the logging format of our code than to implement many parsers to improve log interpretation. I chose DataDog for its superior and easier integration with our current development stack. I switched to DataDog because searching logs was too slow and challenging to get the results we needed quickly, especially when tracking down recent customer problems.
