      Reliable and Customizable: Viewpoint Vista

      My overall experience with Viewpoint Vista has been positive. Since it was acquired by Trimble, the company has grown larger but somewhat less personal. The software provides robust features that allow customization according to an organization's needs. There are also many add-ons available if something is missing. However, I find the support to be somewhat lacking and the payroll reporting, which used to be all in-house, has now been outsourced to Aatrix. This has added extra cost and complexity that wasn't there when we first started using the software. We chose Viewpoint Vista because we preferred its look and feel over other options, and also for its customization capabilities. We switched to Viewpoint Vista because we didn't have a true ERP at the time and knew it was time to implement a solution to help our company grow. I appreciate the opportunity to provide this feedback.

      Overall, I am pleased with the viewpoint-vista software, despite being aware of its flaws and inaccuracies in some reports. I particularly appreciate the 'my tasks' feature, which allows for personalized menu customization. The main menu is well-structured and the primary AP & AR screens are user-friendly. However, I find the help section challenging to navigate. It requires precise wording and often fails to provide clear, step-by-step instructions. A recent system update has made entering invoices in AP more time-consuming, as it now requires PM approval for invoices entered over a subcontract or purchase order amount. This doesn't integrate well with the system, wasting several people's time for an invoice that previously wouldn't have been processed. Additionally, setting up T&M templates is complex, and the help section isn't very user-friendly.

The software is integrated, making it easier for our team to share information. We can attach documents to transactions, giving us instant access to information and allowing us to respond to client inquiries without having to go through paper files. The software's flexibility lets us create custom fields that remain unaffected by updates, enabling us to customize the software to our business needs. However, this flexibility can also be a disadvantage as it complicates the setup process. If you switch from a simpler solution to Viewpoint, you might make some short-sighted decisions about setup or implementation. Fortunately, our implementation team from Viewpoint did an excellent job of pointing out potential pitfalls.

The learning base can be a bit confusing when looking for information, but it's usually easy to figure out new features without needing to call Vista. The support articles are also helpful. The main advantage of Vista is its potential. There are many other products from other vendors and within Viewpoint, and the options are impressive. However, customization can lead to potential errors. The release notes for upcoming versions often feel incomplete, and when a problem arises, they often suggest updating as a solution. Customer service has improved a lot, but still needs improvement. I've never received a callback in less than three days after my initial contact.

      I've been a user of Viewpoint for 15 years and have witnessed many significant improvements. The software is user-friendly and caters to most of our needs. The Viewpoint team is always approachable and I particularly appreciate the Employee portal feature, which has saved my team considerable time and ensured that we use the correct jobs and phases. The software is straightforward to use and offers many tools to understand how things are set up and processed. Their customer service is supportive and generally capable of resolving any issues that come up. However, there are areas that need improvement, like the labor categories and the limitation of not being able to use the same craft and class code combination in more than one category. This is inconvenient as our clients have varied viewing preferences. We transitioned to Viewpoint Vista because they discontinued support for the old system. I appreciate their responsiveness to my review in August 2022.

It also occurred before anyone had any experience with the software. There are video trainings available, but some are outdated. Once you grasp the software's subtleties, it's a good product. It effectively tracks compliance, and entering subcontract and change orders is simple. It also provides useful reports for gathering information. However, due to inadequate initial training, the previous accounts payable person mistakenly thought she could bill an amount on items marked as EA, causing major problems. The support staff suggested that if Viewpoint resolved this issue, their support cases would significantly decrease. If they can't resolve it, they should at least stop users from performing the function. While the reports provide valuable data, some are awkward and it can be challenging to find exactly what you want to display. The support is excellent, but when a problem extends.

      This software is user-friendly and efficient for our concrete product manufacturing work. However, the implementation process was one of the worst I've ever experienced. It took us over a year and a half to get started due to constant changes in project managers during the company's restructuring. We had to repeatedly explain our needs each time a new person was assigned. We also had to be careful with customizations as they were outsourced and not prioritized according to our schedule. If I could go back, I would have considered other options. It seems the company's investor ownership negatively impacts customers, which is bad for business.
